Viewpoints: Spread the joy of reading, and help us all, by tutoring

“One out of every four adults around the world can’t read a newspaper. Or share a bedtime story with a child. Or follow the instructions on a bottle of medicine.”

So begins an article in The Sacramento Bee (byline: Greg Lucas, CA State Librarian) on the state of literacy and ways that volunteers and libraries in California are helping people to read better, and, in some cases, at all.  Here in Contra Costa County, Project Second Chance leads the way in matching volunteer tutors with students.  More on Project Second Chance can be found on this blog and at on the Contra Costa Library website at ccclib.org/psc/
