Awesome Experience from Project Second Chance
by S.M. (student reader)
Here, I’m alone sitting in the car in front of my daughter’s piano class. I need to find a subject to write about. It’s really hard to find the right subject, especially for me. Do you know why? It’s because writing is not my favorite thing to do. But I need to do an essay for my class so my teacher and I can go through it and make corrections on it.
I think it was about 6 months ago when I went to the Project Second Chance office in the Pleasant Hill Library. I went there to apply to have a tutor, who could help me to improve my English. Megan was the lady who interviewed me. Our interview took about an hour and a half. She asked me to read a story and answer the questions. She asked me to write about a subject that I picked.
After the interview, she told me it is going to take at least two months to find a good match for me, but I was lucky. After a month she called me and told me she found a tutor for me. My tutor called me and we set up a first meeting to get to know each other.
From the first class until now, we have had about 32 classes. I can see progress in my writing but I have a long way to go to reach my goal. Today I write much easier than before. I write more correctly but still have lots of corrections. My goal is to write and speak without mistakes. Hopefully, someday soon I’ll be able to speak and write without mistakes.
The last thing I want to tell you is about my tutor, Susan. I’m so lucky to have her as my tutor because she was a teacher. She knows her job very well. She is very organized and careful. She is very kind and a nice lady. The only thing I can say to her is thank you for all your help and support.
I’m really happy to start this program. Hopefully in a very near future, I’ll be able to speak and write correctly.
